Gigabit Broadband from Mediacom Communications Now Available to Homes throughout Columbia-Jefferson City, Missouri Area

COLUMBIA, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mediacom Communications today unveiled its fastest ever residential broadband offering in several Missouri communities. The new 1-Gig Internet service is available to all homes passed by Mediacom’s network in Boone, Cole and Callaway Counties including the cities of Columbia, Jefferson City, and Holts Summit.

With up to 1 gigabit per second download speeds, the latest advanced product from Mediacom offers area residents one of the fastest Internet experiences on the planet. Consumers can begin ordering the new service on September 15, 2015.

“Our robust fiber network was designed with flexibility and scalability in mind, allowing us to cost-effectively turn Columbia, Jefferson City and Holts Summit into true gigabit communities,” said Ed Pardini, Mediacom’s Senior Vice President of Field Operations. “Unlike some other 1-Gig providers whose services are limited to selected neighborhoods, our gigabit speeds are available throughout the community to 100% of the homes and residences along our network.”

Mediacom selected Columbia, Jefferson City and Holts Summit as the first cities to receive its residential 1-Gig Internet service. Looking forward to 2016, the Company plans to begin deployment of the next-generation broadband technology standard known as “Gigasphere,” expanding the availability of 1-Gig residential services to additional communities across its 22 state territory.

“We have invested over $4 billion in our communities through infrastructure upgrades to deliver the very latest broadband innovations to our residential and business customers across a fiber-rich network that includes 600,000 strand miles of fiber optic cable.” continued Pardini. “As an experienced provider of gigabit services to large commercial enterprises, governments and schools, these investments have allowed Mediacom to play a critical role in the development and growth of the cities and towns we serve. As the leading high-speed Internet provider in our markets, we are thrilled to begin the expansion of our gigabit offerings to the residential community.”

Today’s announcement by Mediacom drew praise from Missouri State Senator, Kurt Schaefer.

“High-speed Internet is critical to the economic well-being of Mid-Missouri as well as our entire state,” said Senator Schaefer. “One-gigabit service will keep us competitive in attracting new employers as well as facilitating innovation in education and healthcare for our communities.”
